How To Find A Reputable Breeder?
There are several tools and questionaires that you can be useful to help you weed through all of the wealth of knowledge and "Trash."
Below, you will find links to several sites that have information or questions to ask breeder canidates along with questionaires, worksheets for note taking along with tables.
Finding the right breeder should be like an interview process to find the right fit for your family.
What you don't want to do is fund someone's vacations, children's camps, college funds and continued slavery for living in a puppy-mill of pain, loneliness or abuse. Please take your time and do your research. It will pay off in the long run.
The 4 things that set a Breeder apart as one of quality:
1- Do they fully health test their adult dogs used in their breeding program? I am not talking about taking their dogs to a regular VET.... I'm talking about all the VET specialists and getting health certificates that are registered through the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals registery.
2- Do they affiliate themselves with other breeder clubs, members? Local and National breed specific clubs?
3- Do they show their dogs in the AKC conformation show ring?
4- Do they register their puppies only in the AKC Registry?
